How to Publish Your Site

Publishing makes the site you have built visible to the world. Here is how to do it and what happens behind the scenes.

Publish your site

  1. Open the project you want to publish in the Kite editor.
  2. Click Publish in the top-right corner.

Publish button in the top bar

  1. The first time you publish, pick a Site Domain for your free kite.space address, then click Publish. See Your free kite.space URL.
  2. Wait about 40 seconds while Kite deploys your site. The panel shows progress and then Published · just now.
  3. The panel shows your live link and a QR code you can scan to open the site on your phone.

What happens when you publish

  • Kite takes the latest changes from your editor and deploys them to the live web.
  • Anything you have edited but not yet published stays in the editor until your next publish.
  • The first time you publish, Kite assigns your free <name>.kite.space address. You can rename it later from the same panel.
  • On paid plans, Kite verifies your domain with Google Search Console and submits your sitemap, and the panel shows the status. See Sitemap & robots.txt.
info

Only published changes are visible to visitors. The editor and preview show your draft; the live site shows your most recent publish. If there are no new edits since the last publish, the button is disabled with the note No changes to update.

Publishing from Slack

When Kite builds a site change from a Slack thread, reply "publish it" and Kite merges the draft and deploys it, then posts the live link. Or click Review on the card to open the editor and publish yourself.

Next step

Want to use your own web address instead of kite.space? Once your site is published, and your team is on Growth or Business (or in the trial), you can connect a custom domain.
