Unpublish or Take Your Site Offline
Sometimes you want your site offline for a bit — for example, while you rework your content and don't want visitors seeing a half-finished version.
Take your site offline
- Open the project you want to take offline in the Kite editor.
- Look for an Unpublish or Take offline option in your project's publish or settings menu.
- Confirm that you want to take the site offline.
If you don't see a self-serve option to unpublish, contact Kite support and ask them to take your site offline temporarily.
note
Taking your site offline doesn't delete your work. Your project and all your edits stay safe in the editor — you're only changing whether visitors can reach the live site.
caution
While your site is offline, visitors to your kite.space address or custom domain won't be able to see it. If your site is for an active business, consider publishing a simple "back soon" version instead of going fully offline.
Put your site back online
When you're ready, simply publish your site again to make it live.
Troubleshooting
- I just want to update content without going offline. You don't need to unpublish — edits stay private in the editor until you publish. See My Changes Aren't Showing on the Live Site.
- I want to remove the site permanently. That's different from taking it offline. See Delete your account or Export your site, and contact support if you need a project removed.
