Take Your Site Offline
Sometimes you want your site offline for a while, for example while you rework your content. Kite does not have an unpublish button, so this page explains what you can do instead.
Temporary takedown: ask support
To take a published site offline temporarily without deleting it, open Chat with us in Kite and ask the team to take the site offline. Include the site URL. Your project and all your edits stay safe in the editor, and you can publish again whenever you are ready.
Publish a holding page instead
For many situations a short "back soon" page is better than going dark: visitors and search engines still find something at your address. Ask Kite in chat to replace the homepage with a holding page, publish, and restore the previous version when you are ready. See Undo changes & version history.
Permanent: delete the site
Deleting a website removes it from the web and deletes the project, and it releases any custom domain so it can be used on another site. Do this from your websites list in the browser workspace. Export the code first if you want to keep a copy. See Export or Download Your Site.
Deleting a site cannot be undone. For a temporary takedown, ask support instead.
Troubleshooting
- I just want to update content without going offline. You do not need to take the site down. Edits stay private in the editor until you publish. See My Changes Aren't Showing on the Live Site.
- I want to stop paying but keep the site. Cancel or downgrade your subscription. Your published site stays up. See Manage your subscription.
